Hey, It’s Mike with AffiliatePayDay, the affiliate marketing for beginners guide, with part two of the Affiliate Marketing For Beginners 10 Keys To Success course.
Today we will talk about finding the best affiliate programs and products for your niche.
At first glance you may think this is a “no brainer”, but there are some things you need consider when choosing the most profitable affiliate program. You may also have to do some testing of different affiliate programs, and products, to find what fits your target audience best.
First of all, when you chose an affiliate program, or vendor, you want to make sure they have a good reputation, or at least not a bad reputation.
There are a number of good affiliate programs that have good reputations that can be trusted. Some of the most popular are Clickbank, Commission Junction, and Linkshare.
If you have any doubts about an affiliate program, do a google search on the affiliate program and scam. You’ll quickly find any unhappy affiliates.
Once you have chosen an affiliate program, you need to search their offerings and find products that may appeal to your niche.
When considering affiliate programs, and products to promote, try to find the best commission rate for products that are priced at mid range, and products that will be easy to sell.
If your commission is too low on a low priced product, you may not be able to cover any advertising expenses, or pay for your time to generate free traffic.
If you offer products that are high in commission, they are probably higher priced products, and are harder to sell. Some will tell you that it’s just as easy to sell a high priced product as it is a low priced product, but my experience tells me it’s easier to sell low cost products, but you have to sell more of them
Try to find products in the price range that you would be willing to spend, and products that offer you a fair commission.
Most affiliate programs pay you between 5-10% commission. The exception is Clickbank.
Clickbank vendors generally offer much higher commissions, I wouldn’t promote a Clickbank program for less than 50%. The only drawback to Clickbank is they only offer digital download products - no physical products.
Another thing to consider when choosing a merchant or product, is whether the customer is making a one time buy, or a monthly buy. Monthly buys are commonly known as membership sites, and the customer pays monthly for a product or service. If the customer you referred is paying monthly, make sure you get paid monthly for the referral.
Monthly commission programs, or products, are always preferable since you are getting paid more than once for doing the same amount of work.
There are more monthly commission programs (membership programs) than ever before, so look for them.
