Affiliate Marketing For Beginners

Hey, It’s Mike with AffiliatePayDay, the affiliate marketing for beginners guide.
Affiliate marketing is a great way to make a little extra income, or as many super affiliates have done, earn a full time income.
How many businesses can you start where your investment is so low, and you have so few headaches? Think about it - you sign up for a free affiliate program, chose a product to promote and make money whenever someone buys that product.
You don’t have to worry about fulfilling orders, shipping products or customer support. All of that is handled by the merchant. Plus, you don’t have employees to manage, payroll and everything else that comes with being an employer.
The merchant is also happy because affiliates are spreading the word about the merchants product. Once the merchant has affiliates in place, the merchant can focus on fulfilling orders, handling customer support, and taking care of their affiliates. Affiliates are a very effective, low cost method of advertising.
Affiliate marketing is truly a win-win for affiliates and merchants.
I am going to be using this blog to give you ideas, tips and tricks to help you become a better affiliate marketer.
Let’s get started right now, with part one of “Affiliate Marketing For Beginners 10 Keys To Success”
1. Focus on a specific area of interest. It can be tempting to sign up for a variety of programs on different topics, or areas of interest, to appeal to a large audience. Don’t do it! Instead focus on one specific field, or niche at a time. When selecting a niche, you have to find the right balance of not being to broad with too much competition, or too narrow with not enough potential customers.
For example, let’s say you’re a dog lover, like me. If you chose the niche “dogs”, you will never succeed because it is too broad, and there are some big time players that already dominate the general “dog” niche. You could chose “dog training”, but again you will run into a lot of competition.
Perhaps you could go with “dog leash training”, or “dog-breed training” (insert whatever dog breed you want for dog-breed, then use a generic dog training product to target that specific dog breed niche). Just be careful that you don’t get too specific or you won’t find enough potential customers or you may not be able to find an affiliate product.
Here’s a real life example. I have a dog related site http://doginfosecrets.com and I wanted to expand the site. I decided to include “dog toys” as a niche. But, this is a very competitive niche, and there are some pet superstores that I will never be able to compete with.
So, I looked to narrow the niche down. After doing some research I found an affiliate product that teaches you how to make your own dog toys and save money. So now I am targeting the niche “homemade dog toys” (check out the site).
If you have an idea for a general topic, and need help narrowing it down, have people interested in that niche give you some ideas. Go to google and do a search on your niche topic and forums - like “dog forums”.
Spend some time reading through the forums to see what people are talking about and what information they are looking for. You will get some good ideas, and may be able to find a need, that is not being met. If you can find a product that fills that need, you can make a killing.
Finding good niches is a big part of affiliate marketing for beginners. This is just a short summary of the topic. If you want more information on niche research, let me know by leaving comments below and I’ll put together more specific information.
The next “Affiliate Marketing For Beginners 10 Keys To Success” post will be related to finding the best affiliate programs for your niche.
